Located just south of Dallas, Ellis County is home to a number of small cities and towns, each with its own unique character. The county seat, Waxahachie, is the largest city with a population of over 30,000. Waxahachie is known for its historic downtown area with Victorian, Greek Revival, and Italianate architecture. The Ellis County Museum and the Rogers Hotel are two popular attractions downtown.
Just north of Waxahachie lies the city of Ennis, which has a population of around 18,000. Ennis is famous for its National Polka Festival held annually in May, paying homage to the city's Czech heritage. The city's beautifully restored historic downtown district draws visitors year-round.
