Plantation spans approximately 10 square miles of land. It is situated just west of Fort Lauderdale in South Florida. The landscape is generally flat with an average elevation of 10 feet above sea level. The climate is tropical with hot, humid summers.

As of the 2020 census, Plantation had a population of 94,288 residents. The population is racially and ethnically diverse, with large Asian, Hispanic/Latino and Caribbean communities. Over 22% of residents are foreign born.
