History
The area where Pembroke Pines now sits was originally swampland. In the late 1950s, local developer J.C. Pines purchased land and constructed the Village of Pembroke Pines, designed as an affordable suburban community. More rapid growth occurred in the late 20th century. Pembroke Pines was officially incorporated as a city in 1960.
