The city was created 68 years ago in 1956.
Cypress is a city in northwestern Orange County within Southern California. It is located in the west of the county, between Los Alamitos and Stanton. Its population was 50,151 at the 2020 census. The city's name comes from its status as a cypress-covered hill.
The city's history dates back to 1892 when land was developed by Walter O'Meara and James McFadden. It remained an unincorporated area until January 1, 1960 when it was incorporated as part of the State of California; it joined Orange County in December of that year.
Cypress has experienced significant growth since the 1980s, with large planned developments taking place in the 1990s and 2000s (decade). Cypress is known for its high quality homes and excellent schools, many of which are located in Saddleback Valley Unified School District. The city also serves as a popular location for filming movies and television shows due to its close proximity to Los Angeles and Orange County studios; some notable films include "Dracula" (1979), "The Mask" (1994), "Bulletproof" (1996), "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" (2005), "" (2006), and "" (2007).
