Sitting along the western shore of Lake Monroe County, Michigan">Erie is Monroe County, Michigan. Established in 1817, the county has a rich history and several notable cities and towns. The largest city in Monroe County is Monroe, which also serves as the county seat. Founded in 1784, Monroe thrived in the 19th and 20th centuries as a port town and industrial hub. Today, it still retains much of its historic small-town charm.
Just south of Monroe is the city of Luna Pier, which sits on the coast of Lake Erie. Formerly known as Lakewood, the city was renamed after the concrete pier built in the 1930s. Other towns along the lakeshore include LaSalle and Erie Township, which offer residents stunning waterfront views.
A bit further inland you'll find Dundee, known for its annual Strawberry Festival. Dundee retains its agricultural roots but has recently seen growth as a bedroom community. The Village of Maybee harkens back to its settler days with historic buildings and homes dotting the landscape. And the City of Milan boasts pristine Cedar Creek for kayaking and fishing.
