Bristol County in southeastern Massachusetts is home to several historic and vibrant cities. Located on Mount Hope Bay and the Taunton River, the city of Fall River was once a booming textile manufacturing hub. The Battleship Cove maritime museum displays World War II naval vessels including the USS Massachusetts battleship. The city also holds the distinction for having the largest celebration of Portuguese culture in the United States.
Nearby New Bedford on Buzzards Bay has a strong whaling history and was once one of the most important whaling ports in the world. The New Bedford Whaling Museum chronicles this history and features a large whale skeleton and scrimshaw exhibits. The city is also known for its fishing industry and Portuguese culture.
