The city was created 129 years ago in 1894.

History

Victorville started in 1885 as a small settlement along the famous Route 66 highway. Early growth came from mining and transportation linking coastal California to the east.

During World War II, Victorville Army Airfield brought new jobs and industry. In the 1960s, Victorville began transitioning into a commuter suburb for Los Angeles residents seeking affordable housing.

Economy

Major employers today include Southern California Logistics Airport, Victor Valley Community Hospital, Victor Valley College, Walmart Distribution Center, and Newberry Springs School District.

Logistics, distribution, aerospace, healthcare, and retail are vital industries. Victorville also has manufacturing, construction, and many service businesses. Housing is very affordable.
