Troy is a city located in the county of Newaygo in the U.S. state of Michigan. Its population at the 2010 census was 80,980 and a population density of 929 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 83,589 inhabitants.
Troy is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Its population was 84,035 at the 2022 census, making Troy the most populous city in the county and the 13th most-populous municipality in the state. Troy is a northern suburb of Metro Detroit, located about sixteen miles northwest of downtown Detroit.
Troy has long been a center of trade and commerce in Michigan, and is considered to be one of the best places to live in Michigan. The city has three major districts: Downtown Troy (the heart of the city), Maplewood (the northwestern portion of Troy), and South Troy (the southeastern portion).
The city's economy primarily consists of commercial retail stores, light manufacturing, and government services. The most significant employer is General Motors Technical Center, which employs over 7500 people at its campus on Piquette Avenue. Other major employers include Oakwood Healthcare System, AT&T Automotive Center, and Oakland Schools Technical Center.
In 1914, Henry Ford purchased land near this site and built an automobile factory called the Highland Park Ford Plant that later grew into Ford Motor Company's main plant and headquarters until it relocated to Dearborn in 1927; it is now known as The Henry Ford Museum complex with several other museums nearby.
