History

Stamford was founded in 1641 and originally part of the Connecticut Colony. Early settlers were attracted by the harbor and potential for trade.

In the late 19th century, Stamford became a major manufacturing hub and center for industry. Firms like Yale & Towne, Hoyt-Stamford, and Scoville Manufacturing Company helped build Stamford into an industrial powerhouse.
