Sheridan is a village located in the county of LaSalle in the U.S. state of Illinois. Its population at the 2010 census was 2,137 and a population density of 1,053 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 2,515 inhabitants.

The village was created 152 years ago in 1871.

Sheridan is a village in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, the village population was 2,137. It is part of the Ottawa Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Sheridan is located at 41°13′46″N 88°58′49″W (41.237875, -88.985411) in Mission Township and is situated on U.S. Route 30 between Chicago and South Bend/Elkhart, Indiana. Sheridan's municipal boundaries cover 5.5 square miles (14 km2).

The area around Sheridan was first settled in 1828 by settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee who named it "Sheridan's Settlement" after General Philip Sheridan, under whose command they had served during the Civil War. They were drawn to this area by the rich soil of the Kankakee bottom lands.

In 1877, a railroad was built through Sheridan on its way from Chicago to South Bend/Elkhart and beyond to Columbus, Ohio; this ultimately led to an increase in population as well as industries such as saw mills and lumber yards sprouting up along its path through town."

Sheridan was named after Civil War General Philip Sheridan in 1867 by John Foster, who had purchased land from George W. Harris, who in turn had purchased land from William Wirtz (one of the first settlers). 

The village has experienced significant growth since 1990 with an increase of nearly 500% in its population over 20 years. In fact, Sheridan has grown at a rate faster than any other town or city in Illinois over that same time period!
