Second of all, they have a thriving arts scene with tons of galleries showcasing local artists' work. They also host tons of events throughout the year—from music festivals to film screenings to theater productions—and they're all free!

Thirdly: There are tons of restaurants where you can eat delicious food while you enjoy your view of NYC or the beach. And if you don't have time for a meal out? No problem! You can just pick up some provisions at one of the many grocery stores in town or stop by one of their many farmers' markets (they have one every week!).

Youngest city in New York State

The Village of Rye was incorporated in 1660 as part of Dutchess County and became part of Westchester County at its creation in 1788. In 1849, Rye was set off from Port Chester as an independent village under special act by the New York State legislature.

Rye has been the site of several important events in American history: George Washington held his first military review here on September 21, 1776; Theodore Roosevelt worked here as a young civil service reformer; and Franklin D. Roosevelt often summered here with his family at their home on Bellport Bay. The Battle of White Plains took place during the Revolutionary War on October 28–29, 1776, and resulted in a victory for George Washington and his troops against British forces led by General Sir William Howe.

Rye is a young city compared to others throughout the state and country, but it has an old-fashioned feel to it. The downtown has been revitalized with new restaurants, shops and businesses popping up all over the place.
