Paradise: Town in Nevada, USA

About

Paradise is a town located in the county of Clark in the U.S. state of Nevada.

Paradise is an unincorporated town in Clark County, Nevada located south of Las Vegas along the Las Vegas Strip. With a population of over 220,000, it is the largest unincorporated community in the United States.

Early History

The land where Paradise sits today was originally occupied by the Paiute people for centuries. Non-native settlers later established a few small ranches in the area in the early 1900s.

The town’s emergence is directly tied to the development of the Las Vegas Strip in the 1940s and 50s. The Strip sits just outside the Las Vegas city limits in Paradise. Early resorts like the Flamingo, Dunes Hotel, and Stardust helped put Paradise on the map as a gaming and tourism destination.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus established in 1957 provided an additional anchor for growth in Paradise.

Becoming a Major Tourism Hub

As the Strip boomed in the 1960s, ** Paradise grew rapidly to serve the influx of casino resort tourism.** By 1970, the population had jumped to over 46,000 from just a few thousand in 1960.

Major hotel casinos and attractions continued building in Paradise through the 1970s to 1990s, including prominent landmarks like the MGM Grand, The Mirage, and Mandalay Bay.

Paradise became the premier tourism hotspot in the Las Vegas Valley, while also serving as a community where people lived and worked. Clark County government provided municipal services.

Paradise Today

While legally unincorporated, present-day Paradise is a fully developed community, largely sustained by the 150,000+ hotel rooms along the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. Tourism drives the economy, but many long-term residents work in other industries.

Beyond the Strip, Paradise contains residential neighborhoods, churches, parks, and shopping centers to serve locals. The community faces issues like traffic congestion but continues growing, valued for its warm climate, amenities, and proximity to “the Strip.”

Paradise has cemented itself as the unincorporated tourism engine and gateway for entertainment in the Las Vegas metro area.
