The village is served by a daily newspaper called the "Lackawanna Valley Times", which has been published since 1882 and is owned by LVM Media Group Incorporated.
The borough is named for an old forge built by the early settlers who came from New England. At one time there were several forges in the area; however, only one remains - the Old Forge Farm Forge Museum.
