New Haven is the second largest city in Connecticut located on the northern shore of Long Island Sound. With a population over 130,000, New Haven serves as the cultural and economic center of South Central Connecticut.
History
New Haven was founded in 1638 by Puritan settlers led by Reverend John Davenport. It was one of the earliest colonies in New England.
In the 19th century, New Haven emerged as an industrial powerhouse and center for manufacturing firearms, clocks, carriages, rubber goods, and other products. The construction of rail lines accelerated the city’s growth.
Yale University has been an anchor institution in New Haven since 1716 driving education, innovation, and healthcare. Yale remains the city’s largest employer to this day.
