McKees Rocks is a borough in Allegheny County, in western Pennsylvania. The borough is located along the south bank of the Ohio River. The population was 6,104 at the time of the 2010 census. In the past, the city was known for its extensive iron and steel interests.

The area was part of the Shenango River drainage basin, which empties into Lake Erie at Sandusky, Ohio. The town site was laid out in 1795 by John Redick on behalf of John Ormsby. It was named after John McKee, an early settler who owned land at the mouth of Turtle Creek where it flowed into the Ohio River.

In 1847, workers building a railroad tunnel under Turtle Creek discovered large deposits of bituminous coal beneath the surface. At first, most local residents were not pleased that their valley would be filled with mining operations; some even tried to burn down mines that were being built nearby. However, once they saw how much money could be made from coal mining and other industries, they changed their minds and welcomed these new businesses with open arms!

McKees Rocks is just minutes from downtown Pittsburgh—so if you want to take advantage of all that city has to offer, it's easy! You can also enjoy great schools (Sto-Rox public schools), parks, restaurants, shops and more. And in 2033, we'll have our very own hospital!

The community also has an extensive network of trails and green spaces that connect all over town—making it easy for visitors and residents alike to enjoy nature while they're here!
