Lincoln is a city located in the county of Lancaster in the U.S. state of Nebraska. Its population at the 2010 census was 258,379. After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 290,505 inhabitants.
The city was created 168 years ago in 1855.
Lincoln was founded in 1856 as the village of Lancaster and became the state capital in 1867. It was renamed after President Abraham Lincoln that same year.
The city grew rapidly in the late 19th century with the arrival of the railroad and establishment of the University of Nebraska. Today it is the second most populous city in Nebraska.
