Lenox is a town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. Set in Western Massachusetts, it is part of the Pittsfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 5,095 at the 2020 census. Lenox is the site of Shakespeare & Company and Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Lenox is a small town with much to offer visitors and residents alike. Nestled in the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts, it is surrounded by beautiful scenery and rich history.
The town's namesake is Charles Lennox, 3rd Duke of Richmond and Lennox (1764–1819), who was Governor General of British North America from 1818 to 1819. He was also responsible for establishing the first Masonic lodge in Canada at Kingston (now Ontario).
It is also home to many old houses, including Mount Tom Farm (c 1790), Hawthorne House (c 1820), The Homestead Inn (1849), and The Mount (1857).
Lenox sits on an elevation of 366 meters above sea level and covers an area of 56 square kilometers. It has been around for about 255 years!
Lenox is known for its many tourist attractions and historic sites—it's home to Shakespeare & Company and Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Lenox is also a popular stop for those traveling along the Appalachian Trail.
