Lamar County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 49,793 and a population density of 38 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 49,905 inhabitants. Its county seat is Purvis. The county was created 120 years ago in 1904.
Lamar County is located in northeastern Texas along the Red River. It was established in 1840 and named for Mirabeau Lamar, the second president of the Republic of Texas.
The city of Paris has been the county seat since 1844. Paris was settled in 1839 and named for the capital of France. By the late 1800s, it became an important railroad hub and center of commerce.
