Jefferson is a city in Jackson County, Georgia, United States. The population was 9,432 at the 2010 census, up from 3,825 at the 2000 census. As of 2019 the estimated population was 12,032. The city is the county seat of Jackson County.

The first settlers in what would become Jefferson arrived in 1828 and named it "Jacksonborough". That same year, Jacksonborough became the county seat for Jackson County (which was then called Jefferson County). Over time, this resulted in confusion about where exactly "Jefferson" was located—so when a new courthouse was needed in 1851, it was decided to rename the city "Jefferson" to distinguish it from other places named Jacksonboro (Jacksonville being one example).

It is home to Martin Institute, a private Christian college affiliated with Churches of Christ.

The town was named after Jefferson Davis, who served as President of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War.
