Gregg County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 121,730 and a population density of 170 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 124,229 inhabitants. Its county seat is Longview. The county was created 151 years ago in 1872.
Gregg County is located in eastern Texas, bordering Arkansas. It was formed in 1873 from portions of Upshur County and named after John Gregg, a Confederate general during the Civil War.
The city of Longview became the county seat when Gregg County was established. Longview was only founded in 1870 and quickly grew as a railroad hub for the region.
