El Cajon is a city located in the county of San Diego in the U.S. state of California. Its population at the 2010 census was 99,478. After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 102,401 inhabitants.
The city was created 112 years ago in 1912.
The El Cajon Valley was originally inhabited by the Kumeyaay people. In the early 1800s, Mexico granted lands in the area to ranchers. Americans began settling in El Cajon in the 1850s.
El Cajon was incorporated as a city in 1912. In the first half of the 1900s, it became known as a center of agricultural production, including poultry farming and citrus groves.
