Denton is a city located in north Texas, about 40 miles northwest of Dallas. With a population of over 147,000 residents, it is the 27th largest city in Texas. Denton serves as the county seat for Denton County.

History

The Denton area was first settled in the mid-1800s with the establishment of a courthouse square and saloons to serve cowboys and the Chisholm Trail. Denton thrived as a rural agriculture trading center after the arrival of railroads.

Denton was incorporated in 1866 and by the early 1900s, three colleges had been established, earning Denton the nickname “Little College Town.”
