Concord is a city located in the county of Contra Costa in the U.S. state of California. Its population at the 2010 census was 122,067 and a population density of 701 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 128,544 inhabitants.

The city was created 292 years ago in 1732.

Concord is a city located in Contra Costa County in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. With a population of over 129,000, Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County.

History

The area was originally home to the Miwok and Yokuts native tribes. Spanish settlers established Rancho Monte del Diablo in the early 19th century.

By 1869, the Transcontinental Railroad reached the site of Concord. The town developed as an agricultural community supplying San Francisco markets.

Naval Weapons Station Concord opened in 1942 to support World War II efforts. The city incorporated in 1905 and continued growing after WWII as a middle-class suburb.

Economy

While retail, healthcare, finance, and government are big economic sectors, Concord has maintained a diverse employment base including manufacturing, construction, and professional services.

Major companies headquartered in Concord include SolarCraft, Cerus Corporation, and the West Coast regional offices of Comcast Cable. The city is also home to the Concord Naval Weapons Station and Todos Santos Plaza - downtown's central business district.
