Columbia is a city located in the county of Maury in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Its population at the 2010 census was 34,681 and a population density of 420 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 41,826 inhabitants.

The city was created 216 years ago in 1807.

Columbia is a city in Tennessee, United States. The population was 41,690 as of the 2020 United States census. Columbia is included in the Nashville metropolitan area.

The city is located on the Duck River, about 100 miles northwest of Nashville. The site was chosen by General William Robertson and his brother-in-law Joseph McMinn, who had gone to the area to survey for the state government in 1803. In 1819, McMinnville (the original name of the town) was established by an act of the Tennessee General Assembly as a county seat for Maury County.

In 1821, a courthouse was built here. It is said that George Dickson, who owned much land here at one time, gave part of it for this building site.

On February 4, 1823, Columbia was incorporated by an act of the General Assembly as a town. It has been known by this name ever since then.

The city has also been recognized for its parks system which includes several parks including Lake Columbia Park (located next door to city hall), which offer recreational activities like boating on Lake Columbia or fishing off one of three piers located at different points around the lake's perimeter; or take advantage of any one of the many walking trails that wind through wooded areas surrounding this beautiful waterway!

Columbia also boasts an impressive arts community that hosts events throughout each year including The Riverfront Art.

The post office named "Columbia" opened on January 30, 1825 with John Knoop as postmaster.
