Calloway County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 37,191 and a population density of 35 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 39,300 inhabitants. Its county seat is Murray. The county was created 202 years ago in 1821.
Calloway County sits in the southwest corner of Kentucky along the Tennessee border. It was formed from land acquired from the Chickasaw people in 1822. The county was named for Colonel Richard Callaway, an American Revolutionary War soldier.
The county seat of Murray was established in 1844. Agriculture and tobacco farming drove early settlement in the area.
