After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 38,950 inhabitants. Its county seat is Laramie. The county was created 156 years ago in 1867.
Albany County sits within southeastern Wyoming, nestled against the Colorado border. The county was formed in 1868 from territory previously part of Laramie County. It was named in honor of New York’s Albany County.
The Union Pacific Railroad expansion brought early growth and Laramie emerged as a key stop. Ranching, mining, and agriculture drove settlement. The University of Wyoming was established in 1886.
