Tupelo is a city located in the county of Lee in the U.S. state of Mississippi. Its population at the 2010 census was 34,546. After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 38,303 inhabitants.
The city was created 154 years ago in 1870.
Tupelo, Mississippi is the birthplace of Elvis Presley, who is commemorated with numerous statues. His childhood home displays 1930s furniture. Nearby, the Elvis Presley Museum traces his early life and music. Buffalo Park and Zoo is home to bison, zebras and giraffes. Tupelo National Battlefield was the site of a Civil War battle.
Tupelo is known as “The Dogwood City” thanks to its abundance of dogwoods that bloom in April and May. The city has a population of 38,251 (2020), making it Mississippi's fourth-largest city after Jackson (43681), Gulfport (37394) and Hattiesburg (35325). Tupelo has an area of 167.5 km², which makes it slightly smaller than New York City’s Central Park!
Buffalo Park and Zoo is home to bison, zebras and giraffes. Tupelo National Battlefield was the site of a Civil War battle.
