History
The area was first inhabited by the Akokisa Native American tribe before Spanish settlers arrived in the 16th century. Pasadena has its origins as a settlement named "Old Town" founded around 1884. It adopted the name Pasadena in 1895 after the city in California.
Pasadena incorporated as a city in 1928 as an agricultural and oil town. Rapid growth took off by the 1970s as Houston expanded eastward.
Economy
Pasadena's key industries today include petroleum, petrochemical, shipping, and healthcare. Major employers are the Pasadena Refining System, Bayshore Medical Center, and UniFirst Corporation.
