Liberty County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 75,643 and a population density of 25 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 91,547 inhabitants. Its county seat is Liberty. The county was created 188 years ago in 1835.
Liberty County is located in southeastern Texas near the Trinity River. It was created in 1831 as one of the original counties when Texas was still under Mexican rule. The county was named for its early settlers' devotion to liberty.
The town of Liberty became the county seat in 1830. The original settlers migrated from the southern United States seeking inexpensive and fertile land.
