After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 250,127 inhabitants. Its county seat is Beaumont. The county was created 187 years ago in 1836.

Jefferson County is located in southeastern Texas near the Louisiana border. It was established in 1836 as one of the original counties in the Republic of Texas. The county was named for Thomas Jefferson.

The city of Beaumont became the county seat in 1838. Beaumont started as a small town but grew rapidly after the discovery of oil nearby in 1901. It soon became a major oil boomtown.
