Hardin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 54,635 and a population density of 24 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 58,305 inhabitants. Its county seat is Kountze. The county was created 166 years ago in 1857.

Hardin County is located in southeast Texas, around 90 miles northeast of Houston. It was established in 1858 from land that was previously part of Liberty County. The county is named after the Hardin family, early settlers of Liberty County.

The city of Kountze became the Hardin County seat of government when the county was formed. Kountze was originally established in 1854 as a railroad town and named for founders Kountze Brothers.
