Dublin is a city located in the county of Alameda in the U.S. state of California. Its population at the 2010 census was 46,036. After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 66,936 inhabitants.
The city was created 42 years ago in 1981.
Dublin is a suburban city of the East Bay in California. It is located within the Amador Valley of Alameda County's Tri-Valley region. It is adjacent to Pleasanton, Livermore and San Ramon, and lies approximately east of Oakland, south of San Francisco, north of San Jose and southeast of Sacramento.
Dublin is part of the San Francisco Bay Area, along with Oakland and Berkeley. The city's total area is 39.45 km² (15 sq mi). The population was 63,856 as of the 2010 census.
The name "Dublin" appears to have been selected from several names submitted by area residents, including "Eldorado", "Albion", "Sylvandale", "Emerald Hills" and "Warm Springs", as well as others. In the case of Dublin, a post office operated at the location of what would become Dublin for 30 years, beginning in 1854; it was closed in 1884 after falling into disuse due to construction on a new post office site nearby that would become part of Sunnyvale (then called Centerville). The first school was built in 1855 while still part of Santa Clara County; it was named Central School.
The city boasts a rich history and has been home to many notable residents, including former California Governor George Deukmejian and actor James Dean. The city also has several local parks, including the Robert Livermore Park, which features an observatory that offers visitors a 360-degree view of the city.
