Conroe: The third most populous city in Montgomery County, Texas. It is located on the north shore of Lake Conroe in east-central Texas. Conroe is a city located in the county of Montgomery in the U.S. state of Texas. Its population at the 2010 census was 56,207 and a population density of 309 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 96,214 inhabitants.
The city was created 120 years ago in 1903.
Conroe is the county seat of Montgomery County, Texas. It was founded in 1881 as a railroad town and named after Isaac Conroe, an area sawmill owner. Conroe later became an agricultural trade center for timber, cotton and cattle. The Conroe oil field was discovered in 1931.
Geography
Conroe is located 40 miles north of downtown Houston in Southeast Texas. It spans over 20 square miles near the western shore of Lake Conroe. The terrain includes rolling hills covered with pine and hardwood forests. The climate is humid subtropical.

As of 2019, Conroe had over 87,000 residents. The population is predominantly white and Latino. The median age is 34 years old. Conroe has experienced rapid growth as Houston expands northward. Population has increased over 60% since 2000.
