Columbus is a city located in the county of Muscogee in the U.S. state of Georgia. Its population at the 2010 census was 189,885. After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 196,442 inhabitants.

The city was created 196 years ago in 1827.

Straddling the Chattahoochee River, Columbus offers scenic waterfront views combined with historic architecture and cultural attractions. Known as the site where the last battle of the Civil War took place, this Georgia city provides rich heritage along with family-friendly recreation.

Civil War History

As home to the National Civil War Naval Museum, Columbus embraces its unique place in Civil War history. Visitors can tour the museum's replicas of two ironclad ships used in the Battle of Columbus on April 16, 1865.

The National Infantry Museum chronicles the role of the infantry soldier with artifacts, exhibits and an IMAX theatre. History buffs will also enjoy the Historic District Museums like the Coca-Cola Space Science Center exhibiting space artifacts.

Chattahoochee Riverwalk

The beautiful Chattahoochee Riverwalk extends 15 miles along the river through downtown Columbus. Visitors can stroll along the river, have a picnic, attend an outdoor concert at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, or ride the Columbus rafting Experience for river views.

The Civil War Naval Museum and several historic homes are located along the Riverwalk for easy access.
