Brick Township is a township in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the township had a population of 73,620, making it the state's 13th-largest municipality. The average income in Brick was $85,363 in 2017 versus $75,496 statewide. In 2018, Forbes ranked Brick as the 4th most expensive ZIP code in New Jersey.
The township was formed on November 20, 1824 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of both Dover Township and Howell Township. It is believed that local residents named Brick as such because clay deposits from an outcropping of Raritan Bay made bricks without firing necessary. The name was one of the many names considered for what was then called "New Dublin Township".
Brick's first building was a schoolhouse constructed in 1834 on Grand Street (now known as Broadway). As industry grew along the waterfront areas and railroads were built to transport goods to major cities like Philadelphia and New York City, Brick remained primarily agricultural until after World War II when new housing developments increased its population dramatically...
In 2010 it was named by Money Magazine as one of America's 100 Best Places to Live. As of 2016, Forbes ranked Brick as one of America's 10 most educated small towns (pop 5,000+).
